KP tree project

THE Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has said that it has achieved the target of its billion tree tsunami planting in the province in three years. The project will not only increase the forested area, but help reduce temperature in the province by two degrees.

The target of planting one billion trees was achieved by the end of August 2017 at a cost of Rs11 billion.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has initiated forestation on 990,000 acres in the form of 187 lots. These lots are being offered to investors for commercial forestry and range management initiatives in southern Punjab through South Punjab Forest Company.

The KP traders and business community appeal to their provincial government to initiate a similar project in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa so that not only the forest cover is improved, but forestry investment is enhanced generating revenue and employment.

There is a strong need for protection of the billion tree tsunami project plantation. The inclusion of private investors in the afforestation project will hasten to achieve the desired benefits of the project.
