LHWs still suffering

THE Lady Health Workers (LHW) programme was introduced in 1994 by Benazir Bhutto under the PPP government. Lady Health Workers in all provinces go to unreachable areas. And yet, they are treated as if their just demands do not matter.

Although lady health workers know the fact that their lives would be in danger during field campaigns, they go from door-to-door to save children from diseases.

Irregular salaries, job insecurity and fear of attacks and abuse by the people they encounter are among the problems they face.

It has been two and a half decades but, unfortunately, the Sindh government is not ready to take any positive step in their favour.

The Supreme Court has taken many a suo motu notice regarding LHW issues but their service has not been regularised.
