Time to prioritise stringent environmental regulations
The alarming aggravation of the smog problem in Lahore, often referred to as the silent killer, affects not only the city but also the health and wellbeing of its residents. In recent years, Lahore has witnessed a steady increase in the level of smog, resulting in severe health hazards and environmental degradation. The adverse effects of prolonged exposure to smog include respiratory illnesses and cardiovascular diseases.
The time has come for us, as a nation, to prioritise sustainable solutions, and implement stringent environmental regulations. Addi-tionally, public awareness regarding reduced vehicle emissions, and the importance of green spaces can contribute to efforts to combat the environmental menace.
The consequences of smog are not limited to the health sector. Its economic impact, including decreased productivity and increased healthcare costs, is a burden that the community should not be forced to bear.
Lahore deserves an environment where residents can breathe freely without compromising their wellbeing. It is our collective responsibility to pave the way for a greener, healthier tomorrow. The national media should also play its due role in this regard by initiating a sustained dialogue on the importance of tackling smog on a priority basis. By doing so, we can all work towards creating a healthier future for the grand city of Lahore. It deserves that much from us. Let us all join hands.
