Streetlights: a necessity

IN the absence of proper streetlights, road features such as alignment, footpaths and surface conditions are not visible enough for drivers and pedestrians. Not only do streetlights help reduce night-time crashes by improving visibility, they also help people feel safe and can reduce crime.

When classes are over after sunset, there is a huge problem of deficiency of light in most parts of the University of Karachi. Many of the female students return to their homes on foot for which they have to walk to different gates of the university on a path that is entirely dark.

Ensuring a proper lighting system will not only reduce risk factors for all students but will also create ease for bystanders and students. Before any accident takes place, I hope that the university authorities will act quickly to resolve the problem.
